Turmeric was not only effective as a natural antibiotic, but also anticancer. Researchers from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), India discovered two new substances that can treat cancer.
"Inspired by the needs of turmeric in the range of diseases, type of rhizome is also available in every home. This makes us learn more about the active ingredient in turmeric for 10 years," said Vice Chancellor RGPV, Professor Piyush Trivedi, as reported by Indiatimes, Saturday (12/19/2015).
During that time, according to Trivedi exist two substances that CTR-17 and CTR-20 was found to cleave cancer cells by inhibiting tubulin, the protein that is essential for many important cellular functions, including the chromosomes during cell division, transport intracellular, development and maintenance of cell shape, cell motility and distribution of molecules in the cell membrane.
"Unlike other cancer treatments, these molecules target only cancer cells and does not harm healthy cells. They are very unique and have no significant side effects," he said.
Research conducted in collaboration with the Canadian team at the Advanced Medical Research Institute Dr. Hyoun Lee has been officially recognized internationally. Both of these substances will also get a patent from the US officially.
