Today 82 years ago, or more precisely on December 23, 1933, the Emperor of Japan, Akihito was born in Tokyo. According to Biography.com, it is Japan's 125th emperor who ruled since 1989, succeeding his father, Emperor Hirohito who died.
Prince Akihito took the throne on January 7, 1989 and officially became the 125th emperor of Japan on November 12 in 1990.

On February 18, 2012, Emperor Akihito underwent heart bypass surgery at the Hospital of University of Tokyo or the University of Tokyo Hospital at 09:24 pm local time. He had to undergo heart bypass surgery after the examination results showed a narrowing of the coronary arteries.
During surgery and convalescence, Akihito's eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito will take over official duties such as attending public ceremonies and meeting state guests.
